Stroll the sidewalks of Viridian and you’ll be wowed by the eclectic streetscape. Fresh, modern spins on Spanish, Adobe and coveted Farmhouse architecture are unique and distinct. But together, they harmonize, echoing Rancho Mission Viejo’s heritage ranch roots. To find out how it’s done, we talked to Hans Anderle of Bassenian Lagoni, who let us in on the secrets behind Viridian’s architectural flair. Here’s what he had to say about the three striking elevations.

Santa Barbara – Evocative of Coastal California

Viridian Residence One

“During the 1920s and ’30s—the Golden Age of California architecture—practitioners like Irving Gill distilled the Spanish style down to its pure forms, and we incorporated this style into Viridian’s Santa Barbara elevation. You’ll see arched elements over the entry and feature windows; deep, recessed stucco at the openings; and a pale color palette accented by dark wood rafter tails.”

Viridian Residence One: Entry Fountain & Backyard

“You’ll also find colorful decorative tilework, but instead of traditional designs, these are updated with geometric flair. We also put on a modern spin on outdoor lighting fixtures. Santa Barbara is classic, but contemporary.”

Adobe Ranch – Humble and Charming

Viridian Residence Two

“This elevation really nods to the Ranch heritage. The look has a humble quality to it. It’s not ostentatious, but it’s charming. For a modern update, where thick adobe stone would have been typical, we chose a more linear, horizontal look, using materials like stucco and board-and-batten siding.”

Viridian Residence Two: Cabana

“And reflecting the Ranch landscape, the color palette is deeper, with earth-derived tones and hues.”

Farmhouse Interpretive – Iconic Meets Cool

Viridian Residence Three

“This style really taps into people’s time-honored notions of home. We incorporated the gabled end features, board-and-batten siding and pitched roofs associated with the quintessential American farmhouse.”

Viridian Residence Three – Backyard & Ranch Room

“It’s crisp and linear, but we’ve added intrigue with elements like stone veneer, corner-wrap windows and a mix of pitched and shallow rooflines.”
