For Fun and Flair, Add Art to your Home Décor
Design Tips from a TRI Pointe Expert
We all want our home to reflect more than just our own tastes and preferences. We want our décor to spring to life with the extraordinary. One of the best ways to achieve this is to infuse art into your design.
What’s that? You’re not an art connoisseur? Not to worry. According to Meghan Pennington, senior designer with design firm Pacific Dimensions (PDI), you can start your collection by simply choosing what you like.
“If you like it, buy it – even if it doesn’t all match. You can use a gallery wall to display a lot of your favorite pieces. By matching either the framing or matting, the gallery can have a cohesive look even with different art styles,” Meghan says.
Mixing landscapes with personal portraits is a great way to add variety and interest and black and white photos can make a dramatic statement in masculine spaces, Meghan adds.
PDI Designer Nancy Duong suggests using accent paint to help your art pop against a soft and neutral backdrop.
“The accent paint color can pop off the colors in the art and the matting can create contrast with the accent paint color. We did this in the master bedroom of Blackstone attached plan 6 and the results were amazing,” Nancy says.
When it comes to adding art to your décor, your best bet is to pick what you love, Nancy says, adding, “It plays off your personality and shows who you are. Ideally, you should love every piece!”
