Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Dining, Décor and More!
St. Patrick’s Day is nearly here. And who doesn’t wish to experience the luck of the Irish and celebrate at this time of year? It’s a tradition that dates back centuries with March 17 commemorating Irish heritage and the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. Numerous customs have come to be associated with the holiday, including wearing green and indulging in, well, a drink or two.
For those wishing to infuse a bit o’ green into this fun day, read on for some creative ways to dine and design for St. Patrick’s Day in your home:
- Shamrocks – a three-leaved plant that Saint Patrick used to explain the Holy Trinity – are a popular image associated with St. Patrick’s Day. So, gather the kids, set them up at the kitchen table and start trimming the lucky leaves out of green construction paper. It’s an easy way to add holiday color to your décor. Craft them into glass holders, art for the walls or glue magnets on the back to decorate your fridge with shamrocks of all shapes and sizes.
- Go green wherever you can by giving pots and planters a fresh coat of green paint, bringing in plants and greenery to set around on coffee and end tables, livening up a tablescape with green linens and clover accents and even wrapping your everyday candles with a splash of green ribbon.
- Corned beef and cabbage is a certainly a favorite St. Patrick’s Day dish, but there are other great tastes that will honor this special day. There is Irish Shepherd’s Pie and Irish Soda Bread. While we’re at it, let’s think about dessert, shall we? Irish sugar cookies cut into shamrocks are easy to make. For those with more refined tastes, there is a powder-sugar dusted Irish Tea Cake.
- Finally, St. Patrick’s Day wouldn’t be complete without a wink and a nod and a cool glass of goodness in your hand. A pint of Guinness is great, but why not drink a refreshing green cocktail if you can. There is the Pinot Grigio-inspired Emerald Isle, the minty Irish Julep and the lime-laden Shamrock Shake Up for some adult-themed drinks.
Whatever your nationality, we hope you have a fun, safe St. Patrick’s Day, filled with all the luck and good fortune of a rainbow’s pot of gold.
