MASTERFUL MASTER BATHS
HOME DESIGN PRESENTED BY A TRI POINTE EXPERT
When we say that a home enthusiast is a connoisseur of comfort, we’re thinking of the delights afforded by the masterful master bath. It can exalt the morning from rushed routine to perfectly ordered serenity, and it’s the perfect spot for some me-time at the end of the day. That means, the more spa-like, the better.
With one design requirement for the master bath—blissful comfort—how do we do it? That’s the question for Rick Wood, VP of Project Management at TRI Pointe Homes Southern California: “The master bath is an opportunity for us to create an everyday wow-moment for our customer. So we carefully consider how to maximize the space and the impact for each new home we design.”
Rick noted that beautiful baths begin with a thoughtful layout that delivers on two fronts—flawless functionality and the opportunity to show off personal style. Here are five of our favorite master bath layouts and how we finished them—with style points.
LAYOUT #1: THE SIDE-BY-SIDE TUB-AND-SHOWER DUO
The side-by-side tub and shower is a good option for an efficient layout. The bonus is that the glass shower enclosure allows you to read the entire space, which visually expands the size of the room.
LAYOUT #2: PENINSULA TUB
What do we like about the peninsula tub? It separates and clearly defines mirror-image vanities that promote harmony in shared baths. That’s true functionality. Plus the luxurious soaking tub is featured front and center—a reminder to stop and enjoy the rewards of stylish new home living.
LAYOUT #3: INDULGE YOUR BATH WITH A TUB ALCOVE
If you’re looking for architectural elegance in the master bath, we recommend the tub alcove. A simple soffit and a couple of wing walls define the alcove and allow for special finishing such as floating shelves, tile details and crown moulding. We also love that the symmetry of the separate dual vanities complements the formality of the architecture.
LAYOUT #4: THE FREESTANDING TUB IS THE ULTIMATE LUXURY
Looking for a little opulence? A freestanding soaking tub is the ultimate luxury for the master bath. Shapes now range from vintage-inspired to modern chic, but all achieve a graceful note paired with spectacular plumbing fixtures. Next to furniture-style vanities, the freestanding tub lends instant character to the shiniest of new homes.
LAYOUT #5: THE SHOWER STEALS THE SHOW
Can’t remember the last time you took a bath? Then super-size the shower and hold the tub. And the good news is you don’t need a vast space to get the luxe look. In these three baths, the shower steals the show! And three different interpretations mean three times the inspiration.
