A new year means new home design trends and we’re here to share some of our favorites. From which shades are currently in (and which ones are out) to the importance of personalizing your space, we’re exploring the trends that will be causing a splash in 2023.

Color Goes Subtle with a Splash of Bold

We are definitely a fan of Pantone®’s color of the year Viva Magenta, a powerful red shade, but this year is all about a softer approach — hello, earth tones. Paint company Behr®, appropriately named their color of the year Blank Canvas. While Sherwin-Williams® dubbed Redend Point — a soft, warm hue with minimalistic vibes — as their color of the year and we couldn’t agree more. From pale pink and mauve kitchen cabinets to brown-based flooring, when it comes to color, less is still more. While we’re excited warmer colors are here to stay for that ultimate cozy vibe, adding rich, bold colors that accent the home is a definite design do in 2023 and it’s continuing to gain popularity. By adding a bit of color around the home, like pale blues or green, you can get the perfect mix of pastel and fresh vibes. Looking for some inspiration? Check out some of Designer Bobby Berk’s favorite paint shades for the primary room in a home. What hues are out? A home covered in all white or grey — it’s time to change up the interior energy from cool and ultra-neutral to warm and cheerful.

Bringing Nature Indoors

According to flooring and ceramic tile manufacturer Daltile, “design eliciting a peaceful, well-balanced ambiance,” is a top trend for this year. Connecting the outside with the inside, also known as biophilic design, will be popular this year. It’s all about focusing on nature and more luxurious designs that evoke serenity. The Spruce notes that sustainability will continue to be important in the new year and “natural-inspired spaces are here to stay.” Something we’re continuing to focus on at Tri Pointe Homes® in 2023 is green living and comfort. We evolved our LivingSmart® program in 2022, which is dedicated to energy and cost saving home features. And we created our LiveAbility™ program — designed around the beauty and functionality of the home.

Making a Statement [Wall]

From checkered print to vibrant florals, a bathroom wall or office space can come to life with a statement wall. Delta is noting the power of patterns and even vintage-inspired wallpapers as accent pieces that can really transform a room. Vogue highlights special statement lighting and glass trending for 2023 — specifically with the vintage approach and custom furnishings. The New York Post agrees with the vintage trend — from furnishing to fixtures, people are mixing new with the old.

Personalizing Your Home Space

Goodbye to the “cookie-cutter” approach in 2023. Architectural Digest notes the “desire for individual expression,” and the interest in unique, vintage pieces. Personalization for the home is something we strive for at Tri Pointe Homes — it’s a way to express your style and lifestyle needs in your dream space. Our Design Studio offers a space where you can personalize your dream home — from your bathroom tile to your kitchen sink, and all the features in between.

Bold Stones that Make an Impact

From porcelain and ceramic to high-quality quartz slab, it’s all about creating a style that’s striking and sophisticated. And the statement pieces are not just restricted to walls. A bold quartz for example, makes a strong statement in the kitchen. Another trend for the new year? Slabs made from natural stone for kitchen backsplashes and more. A great way to enhance your home space in a modern and natural way.

Softened Up Edges

Things are starting to curve up. Softer edges are gaining popularity and representing a more “organic feel.” From home hardware to room layouts, rounder edges will be trending in 2023. From arches in doorways and ceilings that are more curved, it’s all about softening the space and simplifying the square, strong edges we’re used to.
