A dog's day could be a day worth envying when it begins at Citro. Walkable neighborhoods, a dog park and extensive trail system create a vibrant social scene. And the surrounding area is full of dog-friendly parks and hikes.

Happily, the amenities that get your pup’s tail wagging will amaze you, too. That’s because Citro, a planned community from Tri Pointe Homes, was designed as an active, vibrant hub for all its residents. And its central location – just off I-15 along Fallbrook’s rolling hillsides – caters to you and your pet with doggie day spas, bakeries and pet stores nearby.

Got the zoomies? Zoom in for a closer look at places for dog lovers in and near Citro:

Citro Trail System

A few steps from home and you’re on your way. Citro’s interconnected trails offer a welcome stretch for your dog, while you get your cardio done. Try the scenic loop through Citro’s legacy citrus and avocado groves, or adventure toward Willow Grove Park to meet and greet the neighbors.

Citro Dog Park

This enclosed hangout is just for the locals. And it’s tucked near The Spot in the heart of Citro, making it a convenient place to catch up with all your furry friends from the community. Stop by after work to unleash, kick-up your heels and play ball. It takes two – you and your pup – to have this much fun.

Live Oak County Park

Roughly halfway between Citro and Fallbrook’s quaint downtown is Live Oak County Park. That’s just five miles from your door to the great outdoors – a 27-acre park canopied by towering oaks. The trails, playgrounds, soccer fields and sports courts are for you. And your pup can zip and zoom through every inch of the 3,000-square-foot leash-free dog park.

Monserate Mountain Preserve

Citro’s trails connect directly to Monserate Mountain Preserve. Your pup will enjoy sniffing out a wide variety of animal species in the diverse habitat. And panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean and rugged mountains are all the reward you need at the end of a challenging 1.5-mile climb to the summit. Just be sure to bring plenty of water.

Santa Margarita River Trail

Voted one of the best trails in San Diego County, Santa Margarita River Trail is a five-mile loop shaded by oak and sycamore trees. Prepare to get your feet (or paws) wet as the trail zigzags along the river. And keep a lookout for California golden beavers and other wildlife who kindly ask you to keep your dog leashed.

Tenaja Falls Trail

Tenaja Falls Trail is a quiet getaway for real nature lovers. No bikes or motorized vehicles allowed. A half-hour up the trail, the waterfalls are a refreshing stop to recharge before continuing two more miles up the canyon. And if you visit in spring, you’ll enjoy an abundance of wildflowers, birds and other native critters, too.
