Spring gets the tulips and summer gets the daylilies but fall belongs to the ornamental grasses and the late-season color that fills the Four Seasons Garden. Spend an Afternoon in Downtown Belmont

Stowe Park sits at the center of it, and fall is when downtown Belmont leans into it — string lights, local shops staying open a little later, and a steady rotation of community events through the season. It's a walkable stretch, which makes it a good afternoon even without a specific event on the calendar.

A few stops worth building the walk around:

• Nellie's Southern Kitchen — Southern comfort food from the Jonas family (yes, that Jonas family — Kevin Jonas Sr. named it for his grandmother), and one of the few Main Street stops with a genuine national following.

• The Everyday Market— a café and market with a European lean, good for coffee and something baked that morning before the rest of the walk.

Cramerton's Fall Festival Brings the Whole Town Out

Cramerton's Fall Festival is free, and exactly as small-town as it sounds — games, trick-or-treating, a cakewalk, and a costume contest that kicks off at 5 p.m. Kids get free wristbands for unlimited gameplay, and there's a craft vendor marketplace for the adults browsing while the kids run the games.

This year's festival is Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., on the ballfields behind the C.B. Huss Recreation Complex at 8 Julian Street. Full details

It's an easy trip from Millstone, and it's the sort of event where you run into neighbors more than strangers.

Walk, Paddle, or Aim for a Turkey on Goat Island

Goat Island is 30 acres in the middle of Cramerton, wrapped by the South Fork Catawba, and it works just as well for a slow walk as it does for an active afternoon. There's a tree-house-style playground for kids, walking trails for everyone else, and river access for fishing, kayaking, or canoeing if the water's calling more than the trail is.

Late fall adds a reason to time the visit around an event: the Turkey Shoot, Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 10 AM to 12 p.m. at Goat Island Park. It's a bullseye-target shooting challenge with a frozen Thanksgiving turkey on the line — first shot free, then $2 for three shots or $5 for eight, two-turkey limit per person. Open to all ages. Flannel, Fire Pits, and a Fleetwood Mac Tribute at Flannel Fest

Downtown Cramerton closes out the season with Flannel Fest on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Live music comes from Landslide, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, alongside food trucks, a mechanical bull, axe throwing, and fire pits with s'mores.
