With the blossoming of spring comes the annual rite of passage: spring cleaning! Even new homes can get messy over time. Here are some spring cleaning tips to make your Atwell home feel fresher while helping you declutter and live a minimal, stress-free life.

Start by removing clutter.

The most efficient spring cleaning starts with a good purge. Over the holidays and winter months, it’s likely your Atwell home has accumulated some things. Whether it’s stacks of magazines, old candles, expired spices or clothes that no longer fit, start your spring cleaning by organizing them into sell, giveaway or recycle boxes.

Be methodical.

Have a plan for your spring cleaning (one room per day, or maybe a 30-day challenge?) and a goal for what you want to achieve. Use a checklist to stay on task as you move room by room. As you rid your Atwell home of unwanted clutter, you can focus on giving each room a top to bottom deep cleaning. Use this time to re-envision each room with a fresh eye.

Contain the chaos.

Simply moving things from crowded countertops, unorganized cabinets and haphazard pantry shelves will make your Atwell home feel calmer. Use baskets, bins and glass jars to organize grocery and baking supplies in your pantry. Get a handle on the junk drawer with inexpensive dividers. Use storage benches and ottomans to hide away blankets and throws, while adding extra seating for your family room.

Keep it eco-friendly.

Skip the harsh commercial cleaning products and go natural instead. Create your own DIY alternatives using common household items like vinegar, baking soda and lemons. Your new home will sparkle and smell fresh, without harming surfaces or the indoor air quality. For bright windows, dilute white vinegar in water (distilled is best). Add a little lemon juice or dish detergent, if desired.

Your Atwell kitchen is a natural gathering place for entertaining – and with that comes lots of use of your kitchen sink. Give your drains a spring cleaning by pouring baking soda in the drain, follow it with white vinegar and then flush with boiling water.

One of the beauties of minimalist rooms is that they are easy to keep neat and tidy. If you don’t have a lot of stuff, you don’t have a lot to clean. And that means more time to relax and recharge in your beautiful Atwell home.
