Resolve to Exercise Your Body and Mind in 2025
This year, why not make a New Year's resolution to exercise not only your body, but also your mind? Here's how living at Atwell makes it easy to stay fit both physically and mentally.
Set mindful goals.
It’s a new year, in a beautiful new home community and you may be feeling the tug to a “new you” as well. If so, start by setting realistic goals. Even as little as one aerobic workout can deliver a boost to your mental health! Ideally, though, experts suggest aiming for 45-60 minutes of aerobic activity three times a week. By easing into your new-year-new-you game plan, you are more likely to avoid injury while boosting those happy endorphins. Give it time, and soon your exercise routine will become your favorite new habit for feeling good both physically and mentally.
Incorporate mind body exercises.
Exercises that involve the mind and body are proven to improve relaxation, reduce stress and increase self-awareness. Best of all, this type of physical activity is great for everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes. Rather than focusing simply on the physical exertion, mind body exercises like yoga, Pilates, guided meditation and tai chi emphasize breath awareness, mental concentration and deliberate physical movement. Whether in your Atwell home or backyard, or a favorite spot along Atwell’s paseos, set aside regular time to focus on your inner health.
Shoot some hoops.
If you want to improve physically and mentally, consider making 2025 the year you become a baller! Playing basketball is a proven way to lower stress, improve mood and increase concentration skills. Join a pick-up game of basketball at Atwell’s basketball court, or simply challenge yourself with some shooting drills.
Boost your Vitamin D.
Vitamin D is a proven brain booster, and one of the best sources for it is through sun exposure. With Atwell’s miles of trails just waiting to be explored, you have plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the outdoors while filling your Vitamin D tank.
Aim for 10,000 steps per day, or set a personalized goal for yourself – number of days per week, a timed goal or a mileage goal for each month. Need a little encouragement? Join (or form) an Atwell walking group. Exercising with accountability partners is a great way to stay motivated, while enjoying fun camaraderie and conversation.
Regardless of your new year’s goals, be patient. It takes at least 18 days to turn a new activity into a new habit.
