The Tri Pointe Homes® team in Charlotte, NC, recently partnered with local nonprofit organization Dream on 3 to make a positive impact in the community and make one special child’s dream come true. Dream on 3 (DO3) is a national 501c3 organization headquartered in Charlotte, NC with chapters serving the Carolinas, Colorado, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, and Georgia. DO3 makes sports-themed dreams come true for kids and teens living with terminal and life-altering medical conditions, including those with mental health challenges and intellectual disabilities. The Charlotte Division has formed a strategic alliance with the local chapter of DO3, most recently helping to make one local girl’s Dream Day come true.

Sky Porter, a nine-year-old basketball enthusiast living with epilepsy, was treated to a VIP experience with the Charlotte Hornets, which included breakfast in the Crown Club with Coach Clifford, time with the team and a surprise "jersey swap" with power forward, P.J. Washington, joining in courtside warm-ups, a high-five tunnel, and seats at the game. As incredible as this opportunity was, Porter’s Dream Day didn’t just begin or end there.

To start the day, more than 20 Tri Pointe Homes team members in Charlotte visited Porter’s school, Weddington Hills Elementary, for a surprise school-wide send-off. Porter’s classmates cheered her down the halls with high-fives and hugs before Tri Pointe Homes’ team members kicked off the event with a Dream Huddle and ushered her into a waiting limo. “Throughout the whole experience, the joy on Sky’s face was palpable, and the reaction and support of her classmates was incredibly touching,” said Curt Curtis, a land development manager for Tri Pointe Homes in the Charlotte area.

While this day was mainly about Porter’s time with the Hornets, she and her mom also received VIP transportation from A Step Above and accommodations from the Omni Charlotte Hotel, making the day even more special. Additionally, they had the opportunity to experience iFly, an indoor skydiving facility, adding a unique twist to their adventure. The DO3 Program Coordinator, Shea Wixon, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative on WSOC-TV stating, "Our hope is that this experience allows Sky’s unique differences to be celebrated rather than misunderstood. Her condition causes so many challenges, including seizures, muscle spasms, headaches and fainting, so it’s important she receives the full impact of all the love and support this community has for her.”

Building communities is more than just building homes; it is about creating spaces where families can thrive, children can grow, and memories can be made. Our partnership with DO3 is just one example of the way that we are building deep ties in the communities we serve by extending a helping hand and making a difference in the lives of those around us.
