Cooler weather means fall festivals and Southern California has a calendar full of local fun. Here are a few fall outings within easy access of Atwell.
Rootedin Nature Craft Brew Festival
California may be known for great wines, but Temecula Valley is also home to some of the most famous craft brewers in the world. The Rooted in Nature Craft Brew Festival on Oct. 15 in Wildomar celebrates local beers in the beauty of Marna O’Brien Park. Festival goers can sample from guest breweries and wineries, nosh on local cheeses and artisan chocolates, enjoy live music and even bring home something special from the silent auction. Let the kids get in on the fun at the festival’s Family Wildlife Park. The festival is less than an hour’s drive from Atwell.
Ghost Walk
California Riverside Ballet turns Riverside’s White Park midway into pure “CarnEVIL” from Oct. 21 - 22 for its 31st annual Ghost Walk Riverside, about 30 miles from Atwell. Those who dare will be treated to all manner of theatrical Halloween magic along two walking trails that meander the park’s five acres. Take in the ballet’s Thrillerdance production, then head to the kid’s carnival for Halloween-themed games, food and craft vendors, and live entertainment. The family friendly event is open 6 - 9 p.m. both nights. Parking is free, but tickets are required.
Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Fest
The skies around Cathedral City will be filled with color from Nov. 18 - 20 for the 8th annual Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Fest, just 30 miles from Atwell. Named the sixth best balloon festival in the world, it attracts thousands of visitors for three days of activities. Come early (6:30 a.m.) each morning to experience the sunrise mass ascensions. Then spend the day checking out the Kids’ Zone and Roof Top Car Show, indulging in SoCal’s favorite food trucks, browsing the artisan market and taking in live music performances. Feeling adventurous? Experience a tethered balloon ride.
Festival of Trees
There’s no bah humbug allowed here! Riverside’s Festival of Trees, just 30 miles from Atwell, is sure to get your family in the holiday spirit. Hosted by the Riverside University Health System Foundation, this free festival turns the Riverside Convention Center into a holiday wonderland for two days, Nov. 25 and 26. There, the corridors are transformed into a forest of beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Make your way to the holiday marketplace for unique locally made gifts and, of course, stop by Santa’s Workshop for photos.
Living at Atwell, the challenge is not in finding fun nearby activities, but in choosing which ones to explore!
